On June 18, 2007, the Parking Utility and Cale Parking Systems, USA, Inc. will begin a 90-day trial of pay-and-display multi-space meters on 100 S. Pinckney Street and on 100 E. Main Street. A single multi-space meter will replace the 14 existing single-pole meters. A time-dated receipt will be issued that needs to be placed on the vehicle dashboard so a Parking Enforcement Officer can see it.

The new meters will accept credit and debit cards along with the usual coins. This will benefit parking customers who may be parking downtown with insufficient change to pay for the desired amount of time. Hopefully this will reduce the number of parking citations and improve the quality of a downtown visit.

Following the 90-day trial, the single space meters will be re-installed while the Parking Utility analyzes the results from a financial, operational and customer service perspective. If the trial is satisfactory, the Parking Utility will issue an RFP to purchase permanent multi-space meters.
