The Monroe Street Library will increase service to five days per week by March of 2022.  Service hours will be:

Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays – 10am-6pm
Saturdays – 9am-5pm

An amendment to the 2022 Operating Budget, proposed by Alders Bennett, Evers, and Vidaver, called for an increase in library hours from 24 service hours (three days per week) to 40 hours (five days per week), to be funded with the library’s reserves for 2022. Approved unanimously by Common Council on November 10, the change will take effect as soon as the library is able to hire and train additional staff in the early spring of 2022.

“In 2020, when we adopted the 2021 operating budget, the Library Board declared our commitment to restoring funding to the Monroe Street Library as soon as possible,” said Library Board President Eve Galanter.  “With the strong support of our loyal library patrons and Alders Bennett, Evers and Vidaver, we've made good on this commitment and look forward to our fabulous staff providing Monroe Street Library patrons two more days of service in 2022. After such a challenging year for all, it's great to have something to celebrate!"

“We are pleased to be able to restore services to this treasured neighborhood library,” said Library Director Greg Mickells.  “I’d like to thank the Library Board, Alders Bennett. Evers, and Vidaver, Mayor Rhodes-Conway for their support, and the Monroe Street Library staff that made this library special to the patrons they serve.”

Monroe Street Library hours were reduced due to budget constraints in 2021.  Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the library was open 46 hours per week.
