Chief Davis Will Sign ESGR Statements of Support

As the Madison Fire Department gears up to kick off its next firefighter recruitment campaign—the first in two years—it is specifically reaching out to an especially qualified group: Military service members.

Unemployment numbers among veterans in the United States are improving*, and the Madison Fire Department continues to do its part to introduce current and past military service members to a career that is significant, challenging, and personally rewarding.

On Wednesday, September 2 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Fire Station No. 8 (3945 Lien Road) hosts a Military Service Member Recruitment Open House.

All current or past members of the military are invited to attend. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet other military personnel currently employed by the Madison Fire Department, ask questions about our recruitment and hiring process, and take tours of the fire station, equipment, and vehicles.

The City of Madison Fire Department has been a proud employer of past and present military service members with over 10% of the Department’s workforce comprised of members of the armed forces. The MFD’s camaraderie, values, and physical lifestyle mirror that of a service member.

At this open house event on September 2, Chief Steven Davis will be joined by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a volunteer organization within the Department of Defense. Chief Davis will sign thirteen Statements of Support from ESGR—one for each of the MFD’s thirteen fire stations—further signifying the Fire Department’s ongoing commitment to employing members of the military.

With the next Fire Academy application period right around the corner, now is the time to learn why a career with the Madison Fire Department may be the best “next step” for current and past service members.

Questions about recruitment can be directed to the Madison Fire Department Recruitment Team at (608) 513-3446.
