The Streets Division will resume collecting curbside piles of leaves and yard waste on Friday, November 1, 2019. While the Halloween snowstorm caused delays, it did not end operations for the year.

Starting on Friday, November 1, crews will collect bags of leaves/yard waste and also loose yard waste/leaves piles that can be identified under the snow.

It is standard Streets Division operations to continue providing leaf collection until all of the leaves have been collected, or until snow piles are so deep along the terrace that piles cannot be distinguished from snow, and the weather outlook suggests that the snow will remain until the spring.  Since temperatures are expected to rebound above freezing, which will make curbside piles visible and accessible, leaf collection will resume.

The Streets Division hopes to provide additional curbside collection opportunities to the residents of Madison before the season ends later this year. The final collection opportunity for yard waste collection is weather-dependent and more information regarding the end of curbside leaf and yard waste collection will be announced when that date is known.

Residents who have gathered leaves in advance of collection are encouraged to consult the Pickup Schedule Map on the Streets Division’s yard waste website.  When the map shows neighborhoods shaded green for “Pickup Pending” residents should get leaves to the curb for collection. The map cannot provide the date when leaves and yard waste will be collected, but by placing leaves to the curb when a neighborhood is marked “Pickup Pending” will minimize the amount of time the leaves and yard waste are at the curb, and will ensure they are in place in time for curbside collection.

Residents can also use one of the three Streets Division drop-off sites for their material. The drop-off sites for yard waste are located at 1501 W. Badger Rd., 4602 Sycamore Ave., and 402 South Point Rd.  All three sites are open seven days a week, 8:30am to 4:30pm and until 8:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  These drop-off site hours will remain in effect until Sunday, December 8.
