In spite in the snowfall, the Streets Division is collecting leaves and yard waste from the curb on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.

Collection crews will be picking up what can be identified as leaves and yard waste beneath the snow. Residents with smaller piles may want to remove snow from atop their leaves so crews can identify them.

Crews are also limited as personnel has been diverted from leaf and yard waste duty to perform snow and ice duties.

Due to the cold temperatures and the snow, street sweepers will not be used to collect any leaf debris left in the road following curbside pickup. Street sweepers require water to perform their work. Below freezing temperatures can cause the equipment to freeze. Street sweepers will not be dispatched again until temperatures climb above freezing, which may not be until sometime during the week of November 11, 2019.

Streets Division does not anticipate that today’s snowfall will end leaf collection operations for the year. While the early winter weather has complicated and slowed collection, it has not ended it. A future announcement will be made when curbside leaf and yard waste collection will be concluding for the year.

Residents who have gathered leaves in order for them to be collected at the curb are encouraged to consult the Pickup Schedule Map on the Streets Division’s yard waste website. When the map shows neighborhoods shaded green for “Pickup Pending” residents should have the leaves on the terrace or road edge ready for collection. The map cannot provide the date when leaves and yard waste will be collected, but placing leaves to the curb when a neighborhood is marked “Pickup Pending” will minimize the amount of time the leaves and yard waste are at the curb, and will ensure they are in place in time for curbside collection.

Residents can also use one of the three Streets Division drop-off sites for their material. The drop-off sites for yard waste are located at 1501 W. Badger Rd., 4602 Sycamore Ave., and 402 South Point Rd. All three sites are open seven days a week, 8:30am to 4:30pm and until 8:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These drop-off site hours will remain in effect until Sunday, December 8.
