Madison residents have begun to get their new telephone directories. Once the new books arrive the first thing many folks ask is “How to I recycle my old phone book?”

“Phone book recycling is very easy with our new program,” Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. “All you have to do is put your old phone books in your green recycling cart and we will take care of the rest.”

In the past, phone book recycling was limited to an eight to ten week period each spring. That is no longer the case with the new automated single stream system used in the City of Madison.

“Our new recycling system allows us to accept phone books year round,” Dreckmann said. “This is a very nice feature as most Madison residents now get a second phone book in the summer. Now, you no longer have to hang on to your old phone books, you can put them in your green cart whenever you want.”
