Madison, WI – Greater Madison Jazz Consortium debuts its new original music concert series at Madison’s Central Library this April with four Thursday evening concerts by local jazz musicians.

To encourage local jazz musicians to create new works, the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium launched a new concert series called “InDIGenous”.  The InDIGenous series offers performances by local musicians as well as musicians from throughout the upper Midwest in an effort to build reciprocal relationships with presenters and creating new performance opportunities for local musicians elsewhere in the region.
Concerts include:

  • April 9: Pianist Paul Hastil (performing with guitarist Louka Patenaude, bassist Nick Moran, and drummer Michael Brenneis)
  • April 16: Drummer Devin Drobka (performing with his “Bell Dance Songs” band, including bassist John Christensen)
  • April 23: Chinchano (Afro-Peruvian group from Chicago)
  • April 30: Trumpeter Paul Dietrich (performing with his quintet)

All concerts will include two sets of music, starting at 7 pm.  Concerts are free, and a cash bar will be available before and during the performances through a partnership with Underground Food Collective.  InDIGenous is funded by the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium, with support from WYOU, WORT, Isthmus, and Full Compass.

This concert series is one of two partnerships featuring free jazz performances in Dane County public libraries in April.  For more information and dates of all free concerts, visit madisonpubliclibrary.org/jazz  For more information about the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium and a list of all jazz performances in the Madison area, visit greatermadisonjazzconsortium.org
