Students across Madison will be celebrating next week as six more schools get hydration stations thanks to the “Got Water?” project, aimed at helping kids make healthy beverage choices by giving them easy access to water. “Got Water?” partners have been working to provide hydration stations and reusable water bottles to schools since 2015. After this school year, a total of 16 elementary schools – half of the elementaries in Madison – and three middle schools will have water bottle refilling stations because of the program.

“Got Water?” is a joint initiative from Madison Water Utility, the Healthy Kids Collaborative based at the American Family Children's Hospital, and the Madison Metropolitan School District. The 2018 “Got Water?” schools are: Kennedy, Muir, Crestwood, Lapham, Lowell, and Cherokee Heights.

Drinking Water Week / “Got Water” celebrations

Next week, staff and students will come together at Lapham, Muir, Kennedy and Lowell schools for “Got Water” celebrations featuring Madison Water Utility’s Water Wagon and other partners.

Media is invited to Lapham’s water celebration on Monday, May 8th from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., and Kenney’s water celebration on Thursday, May 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The events take place during national Drinking Water Week (May 6-12), a week meant to highlight the value of safe, reliable drinking water. These events will promote healthy habits through the 5-2-1-0 message (every day, children should aim to eat 5 fruits and vegetables, watch 2 hours or less of screen time, get 1 hour of physical activity and drink ZERO sugary beverages). Students will learn where Madison’s water comes from, why it’s important to stay hydrated, and of course, they’ll get a chance to fill up their new bottles!

All “Got Water?” hydration station schools:
2015: Huegel, Leopold, Elvehjem
2016: Allis, Lindbergh, Lake View
2017: Orchard Ridge, Falk, Schenk, Gompers, Glendale, Wright Middle, Sherman Middle
2018: Kennedy, Muir, Crestwood, Lapham, Lowell, Cherokee Heights Middle.
