On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, it is anticipated that extreme cold conditions may intermittently impact the functionality of on-street parking meters and pay stations. With the potential for intermittent parking meter equipment downtime on Wednesday and Thursday caused by the extreme cold temperatures, parkers are encouraged to make payment via the mobile app for multi-space meters or follow the process outlined below regarding payment and citation review.
During typical conditions, parkers are required to report a meter malfunction at the time it is encountered, before being allowed to park at the meter for up to the posted time limit without making payment. For the dates of Wednesday, January 30th and Thursday, January 31st, if a meter or multi-space machine malfunctions when attempting to make payment, or payment cannot be made due to other equipment problems, parkers will not be required to report the malfunction or to make additional payment attempts, and may park at the metered space for up to the posted meter time limit (25 min, 1 hour, 2 hour) without making payment.
If you receive a citation for an expired on-street meter on Wednesday, January 30th or Thursday, January 31st as a result of being unable to make a payment, please contact the Parking Division at parking@cityofmadison.com or (608) 266-4761 with your name, the citation number, vehicle license plate number, time and date of the citation, meter space number, and description of the malfunction.
