Madison – Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said today’s opening of a new police station on Madison’s east side is the latest demonstration of his ongoing commitment to improving public safety. The new facility, located just off Cottage Grove Road, will improve the Police Department’s ability to serve Madison’s growing east side neighborhoods.

“The opening of this station is the next step in bringing the Police Department out into the community they serve,” said Cieslewicz. “The result will be increased responsiveness and a closer relationship between police officers and neighborhood residents and businesses.”

Funding for construction of the East District Police Station was first approved in 2004, with additional funding in 2005 and 2006 for a total cost of about $3.3 million. The opening of the facility comes on the heels of numerous other recent public safety investments, including last year’s opening of the first additional fire station in 25 years, purchase of the first new ambulance in 15 years, and the hiring of 8 new police officers.
