Cypress SprayPark

This summer, kids will have another way to cool off during the hot summer months: the Cypress SprayPark. Located on Madison's south side, on the corner of Cypress Way and Magnolia Lane, the spray park will offer kids a fun, safe and cost-free place to meet friends and ... get wet! Get really wet!
The Cypress SprayPark will feature both a wet and a dry play area. The wet play area will have misting and low spray water features for toddlers and pre-schoolers and rain shower and cascading water features for adolescents. The wet play area will be fenced and unlocked daily in the summer months by a park attendant. The season for the wet spray area will correspond with Goodman Pool's open season which is first day of Madison Metropolitan School Districts summer break to Labor Day. The dry play area will feature traditional play structures and swings. This dry play area will be open to the public year round.
Nationally, spray parks have become a popular feature in municipal parks due to the cost effective operation. Because there is no standing water, there is no need for a lifeguard, only one park attendant to unlock, lock the fence, keep the facility clean, maintain order and be an adult presence at the park in case of emergencies. Spray parks are also the perfect complement to a public pool. They are a comfortable and casual environment where children can build their confidence about being near and in water, thus providing a transition to learning to swim.
The Cypress SprayPark construction cost is $435,000; over half of which privately funded by the McClellan-Dodge Trust Fund, the Herfurth Foundation, the Madison Community Foundation, Jerome Frautschi, and CUNA Mutual Foundation. The SprayPark will cost the city $19,000 a year to operate. The Cypress SprayPark will be free for the participants.
