On Monday, October 29, 2007 at 6:00pm in the Campus Community Partnership Room, 2234A Villager Mall, 2300 S. Park St., there will be an open meeting of the Madison Arts Commission Public Art Standing Committee in which three artists will present their proposals for an artistic enhancement to the Cypress Spray Park.

In the summer of 2007, the City of Madison Parks Division created a recreational splash park for children and families in the Burr Oaks Neighborhood on Madison's South Side. This park was the first public water playground of its kind in Madison, and offered children another fun and safe way to cool off during the hot summer months. The Parks Department invited the Madison Arts Commission (MAC) to commission a feature for integration into the park's design.

MAC selected three artists to create a proposal for site-specific, integrated, public art that affirms the character of South Madison. The selected artists have worked with the Madison Arts Commission, Parks Division, and various other City departments and stakeholders to develop their proposals.

MAC would like to gather community opinions regarding the proposed designs. Community members will have an opportunity to cast an advisory vote at the October 29 meeting. Community members are also invited to submit their advisory votes and comments at the South Madison Branch Library at 2222 S. Park St. from November 5 through November 9. A display of proposal designs will be on view above the children's literature bookshelves. It is anticipated that the selected feature will be completed and installed in spring of 2008.
