Expect to see more cloth facial coverings in the City of Madison, particularly among City employees. Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway announced this week that because of CDC and Public Health Madison & Dane County (PHMDC) recommendations, all City employees are being required to wear facial coverings while on duty.

“City workers serve the public every day. Using face coverings is just another small way we are all working to flatten the curve and protect the most vulnerable in our community against COVID-19,” said Mayor Satya.

In response to the coronavirus outbreak and the COVID-19 illness that results, the CDC and PHMDC are recommending that all individuals wear a face covering when going out away from their home. Although surgical masks are in short supply during the pandemic, washable face coverings can provide much the same benefits of surgical masks. Wearing any face coverings can reduce the likelihood of transmission and the CDC gives instructions on how you can make them at home, accessible here.
