Small group ice skating lessons for children aged 4-12 will begin the week of February 12 at two Madison ice rinks. Each 6-class session offers a unique learning experience and is taught by a US Figure Skating Association certified instructor. Classes are just 30-minutes each and include:  Parent/Child; Snowplow Sam; Basic 1 and Basic 2. The ages listed are a guideline, please read the following descriptions below to place your child in their respective class.

Parent/Child (Ages 4+)
The adult will be expected to participate on the ice with their child attending.  Adults may wear their own ice skates, if you can skate or you many wear boots to assist your child on the ice.  The class is designed to help the young skater with no previous instruction learn the basics about ice skating. Min: 5/parent & child; Max: 9 /parent & child.

Snowplow Sam (Ages 5-8)
This is a beginner class to develop preliminary coordination and strength to maneuver on the ice. Skaters will learn falling, getting up properly, standing, marching, and work toward gliding on the ice.

Basic 1 (Ages 6-12)
The basic skills in level 1 will teach the proper way to fall, how to get up from a kneeling position, sit on ice and stand up, march forward across the ice, forward two-foot glide, dip, forward swizzles, backward wiggles, and snowplow stop.

Basic 2 (Ages 6-12)
Those entering into this class need to have a good handle on skills learned in Basic 1 and be able to balance on their skates. This class will build from the fundamentals of the sport. The learning involved will include: forward one-foot glides on both sides, backward two-foot glide, backward swizzles, two-foot turn from forward to backward in place, and a moving snowplow stop.
