2014 Black Youth Academy
The 2014 Black Youth Academy will be held August 6-8 at The Madison Police Department Training Center at 5702 Femrite Drive. The academy is geared towards students entering 7th and 8th grade. Students are recommended to the academy by their teachers throughout the Madison Metropolitan School District.  The youth outreach program was designed to build trust, promote careers in law enforcement, and to inspire and educate middle school students.
The Black Youth Academy is comprised of a diverse group of Law Enforcement Officers committed to building positive relationships with black youth at this annual academy. The goals of the academy are to build trust with community youth, their families and neighborhoods.  Participants also strive to educate and interest young people in the role of law enforcement in our communities.  Academy leaders hope to encourage leadership, provide positive role models and help develop skills that participating youth can take back into their homes, schools and communities.
The Latino Youth Academy will be held August 20 – 22nd at the training facility. This companion academy is directed to middle school aged Latino Youth.
Members of the media who may be interested in covering the opening of the Black Youth Academy are welcome at the Training center on Wednesday August 6 from 8 am until 9:30 am.
