Art will be sited at confluence of State Street, Library Mall, and East Campus Mall

The City will soon be commissioning a new work of public art at the confluence of the State Street Mall, the University of Wisconsin Library Mall, and East Campus Mall, as a capstone for the State Street Reconstruction Project.

The location for this project, at the 700 and 800 block of State Street, was identified as an ideal location for a site-specific art feature that affirms the character of Madison and celebrates State Street as Madison’s signature pedestrian thoroughfare.

Over 60 artists or artist teams responded to the request for qualifications released in early fall and from those responses the selection committee, comprised of members of the Madison Arts Commission and the Downtown Coordinating Committee, chose three applicants to advance to the final phase of selection. Koryn Rolstad Studios, Dimitar Lukanov Sculpture, and RDG Dahlquist Art Studio were all invited to develop concept proposals for the site.

On Friday, November 18, 2016, the selection committee will be reviewing proposals of the three artists/artist teams chosen as finalists. The artists will present their proposals at Madison’s Central Library, 201 West Mifflin Street Madison, Wisconsin 53703. The schedule of presentation is as follows:

1-1:45pm Design - KRS; Koryn Rolstad
2-2:45pm Dimitar Lukanov
3-3:45pm RDG Dahlquist Art Studio

Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend.
