All Madison Public Libraries Open Regular Hours on February 1

Thursday, January 31, 2019 - 7:33pm

All libraries reopen for regular service hours; some service delays possible

All Madison Public Library locations will reopen for regular service hours beginning Friday, February 1.

With the closure of non-essential city offices and the closure of many public libraries and the South Central Library System library support network earlier this week, library customers can expect some service delays as libraries return to normal operations.  Some of the following may apply to library customers:

  • Due to an increase in hold requests and a backlog of items to check in, items placed on hold or put in transit to fill holds may be delayed by several days.
  • Items returned in our book drops when we were closed may take several days to be cleared from your record. Items returned in book drops will be backdated to our last open day so as not to add any additional fines.
  • Holds on Madison Public Library shelves that were set to expire between January 30 and February 1 will now expire Saturday, February 2 (with a few exceptions).
  • Fines may have accrued on days we were closed. If you owe a fine due to the weather, please return the item in person to any Madison Public Library and tell staff that you have a weather related fine. We'll do our best to waive or reduce fines related to the weather the rest of this week and into next week.
  • Some programs may be cancelled or rescheduled throughout the weekend.

As always, during City of Madison declared snow emergencies and days of extreme temperatures this winter, please check the library’s web site or call the library you plan to visit in advance, as updates may occur throughout the season or programs may be cancelled even if libraries are open.
