Many City services are available online or by mail. There is a drop box outside the City-County Building for documents that cannot be sent electronically or by mail.
The Clerk's Office is open for licensing, elections, and notary services. If you would like to access these services, please call (608) 266-4603 to enter the building.
City committee meetings are canceled, postponed, or being held virtually. For the latest status of City meetings, visit the City’s Meeting Schedule.
The Treasurer's Office is closed for in-person payments. You can make payments online, by phone, or by mail.

Housing Authority Rent
CDA and Section 8 housing residents should contact their property manager or Section 8 caseworker as soon as possible if they may be unable to pay rent. CDA residents can pay their rent online or by mail.

Late fees for Municipal Service Bills are exempted until further notice.

The City of Madison will not be charging interest or late fees on property tax payments that are due April 1, 2020 – October 1, 2020.
Refuse & Recycling
Refuse and recycling collection starts at 6:30 a.m., 30 minutes earlier than normal. All residents should have their carts and large items out for pickup by 6:30 am on their scheduled collection day.

Brush, Leaf, & Yard Waste
Curbside brush collection is in progress. Collection may be slower than usual as we prioritize critical refuse and recycling services.
Leaf and yard waste collection has ended for the spring. Bring materials to a drop-off site, or compost them in your yard.
The drop-off sites at 1501 W. Badger Rd, 4602 Sycamore Ave, and 402 South Point Rd are open with new hours and restrictions.
The brush processing and mulch facility at 121 E. Olin Ave. is open for small quantities of mulch pickup by Madison residents. Other services, like dropping off brush, remain unavailable at this time. Additional information can be found on the Streets Division’s website.
Customer Service Offices
The customer service offices at 1501 W. Badger Rd and 4602 Sycamore Ave will open on June 22 with limited hours and new restrictions.
Recycling fee stickers will not be available for purchase from the offices.

The parks locations for mulch have been emptied and will not be restocked. A limited supply of mulch is available for residents at 121 E. Olin Ave.

Offices are closed to the public. Employees are working remotely to support critical services. We have temporarily updated our submittal requirements and Commission meeting schedules.

Doing Business with the City

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
If you call 911 for your illness, one of the best things you can do is share your symptoms with the 911 call taker. They will be able to get the responders the information about your symptoms so they can prepare before arriving on scene. When first responders do arrive on scene, tell them exactly what you are experiencing and your entire medical history.
The Madison Fire Department administrative officers are closed. 24-hour emergency services are still available. We are following Public Health guidance on personal protective equipment (PPE), response plans, and communication.

The public windows at district stations are closed. The entryway to each station has a phone with a direct connection to the 911 Center in case of emergency.

A free community testing site is available at the Alliant Energy Center. No appointments are necessary.

Madison Public Libraries are closed to the public but offering limited services, including curbside pickup.
Metro Transit is running reduced service and following modified Saturday schedules. Please board and exit buses using the rear doors if you are able. We are not collecting fares on fixed route service.
Please only use buses for essential trips like travel to work, medical appointments, and grocery stores. Use alternative forms of transportation if they are available to you.

Municipal Court counter service is closed. You can still contact the Municipal Court office by mail, email, fax, or phone.
All court appearances must be by mail, email, fax, or phone. No in-person court appearances are allowed.
You must contact the court on or before your scheduled court date by mail, email, fax, or phone. If you do not, you will be found guilty of the charges in your ticket, citation, or complaint.
You are required to give the court your current mailing address.
City of Madison Parking Division reinstated enforcement of on-street meters and Street Sweeping restrictions beginning June 1, 2020. Resident Permit-Only and 1-hour and 2-hour posted restrictions in non-metered areas will remain suspended through at least June 21, 2020 and will not be enforced.
Additional parking changes or restrictions:
- Temporary $5 Max Daily rate at City-owned parking garages
- First hour free on Saturdays, fees accrue after that initial hour is exceeded
- Possible long-term solutions will be discussed on June 24 at the Transportation Commission Meeting
