Five new lieutenants assumed position in July 2015.
We introduce them to you all week long on the MFD blog.

How many years have you served with the Madison Fire Department?
I will complete my 17th year with the department on August 10. I spent much of that time as a Paramedic riding Rescue 3, Medic 5, Medic 8 and Medic 7.

What is your new station/shift assignment?
Lieutenant on Engine 13, “B” shift.

I had a chance to work with my new crew for the first time the other day, and we had a great day—we got to know each other a little bit and worked together on what our expectations for the rest of this year are.  We found we also have a lot in common. I’m fortunate to come out to a very well-prepared crew.

What kind of leader do you model yourself after?
One of the good aspects of this job is we bounce around a little bit from team to team. By being here, there, and everywhere, you get different perspectives on how to do your job and you learn what’s important. I want to turn out to be somebody that my mentors would be proud of.

What has been one of the most rewarding parts of your career up to this point?
I would have to say working at Station 7, taking care of the people in the neighborhood that I literally grew up in; driving by the house where I grew up and knowing that these people are relying on me now to help them.
