Where are you stationed?
Fire Station Station 7 (McKenna Blvd.) on the B shift.

Why did you want to pursue this career?
I wanted to pursue a career in firefighting for many reasons. My father is a firefighter and I have always wanted to follow in his footsteps. I wanted a rewarding career where I could help others. I also wanted a career where I could be a part of a brother-/sisterhood like that which the fire service offers. Madison is a growing community and a city I have always enjoyed and wanted to serve.

Why did you want to work in Madison, for the Madison Fire Department?
I wanted to work for the Madison Fire Department because I have always loved this city. I visited many times over the years and always enjoyed myself. When I applied, I also heard that Madison was one of the best departments in the country to work for, that they really invested in their employees, and that they had a lot of pride in their department and community.

What has been the most rewarding part of your experience so far?
The most rewarding experiences I have had so far has been helping my community and forming a bond with my crew.

Looking back at the Fire Academy, what was the most challenging element?
The most challenging part of academy was learning to work together to achieve our goals. We all had to learn how to work as one unit even though we were all such different people. I truly am grateful that we got to have that experience because I think it prepared us for the field and made us better firefighters.

What advice would you give someone hoping to join the MFD?
The advice I would give someone wanting to join MFD is to prepare and give it your all every step of the way. I would tell them to prepare mentally and physically. Practice interviewing and testing, and keep applying yourself to be better. This is a challenging career to get into but it is worth it. Joining the MFD was the best thing to ever happen to me.
