Caluster BuieEighteen new firefighters graduated the MFD Fire Academy on November 6, 2015. We introduce them to you on the MFD Blog throughout December.

Why did you want to be a firefighter? 
I want use this exclusive position to make sure all others are included in the big picture.

Why did you want to serve in the city of Madison?
I'm very proud of the officers and chiefs of our department, and I believe in the Madison Fire Department's mission statement.

What has been the most rewarding part of your experience so far?
My own self growth, and seeing my world and the people in it more beautifully than I imagined.

Looking back at the Fire Academy, what was the most challenging element?
Learning to trust others and myself on a level I have not had to before.  

What advice would you give to someone hoping to join the MFD?
Keep spaces open to grow and learn in areas you think having nothing to do with fire science... Then grab hold and don't let go.
