“The City of Madison and Dane County will be commemorating and honoring the life of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on the 50th anniversary of his death on April 4th, 2018 with a march and street rededication ceremony. Dr. King’s message of non-violent direct action resonates as strongly today as it did while he was alive.

Below is the day’s schedule
11:30 am – Gather at front steps of City County Building 210 Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard, Madison

  • MC – Judge Everett Mitchell
  • City of Madison Mayor Paul Soglin
  • Wes Sparkman – Dane County, Tamara D. Grigsby Office of Equity and Inclusion

12:00 pm – March starts at the front steps of the City County Building

  • Forward Marching Band
  • Zion City Church Choir

12:30 pm – Street Rededication Ceremony begins

  • Alder Sheri Carter – District 14

12:45 pm – Speakers

  • Norman Davis – City of Madison, Department of Civil Rights
  • Laura Minero – Ph.D. Student, Counseling Psychology, UW-Madison
  • Jaleah Hunt – Student, Capitol High School

2:00pm – Program Concludes

Interpretation Services will be available in ASL, Spanish, Hmong and Mandarin.”
