In a quiet, prosperous community in Ohio, a picture-perfect couple’s large, elegant house goes up in flames as their four teenage children look on. It was not an accident. Who started the fire, and why? Despite the well-meaning good intentions of the citizens of this progressive community, they are blind to their privilege and the messiness of simmering racial tensions and incendiary family dynamics lurk beneath the polished surface. Events will force the residents to address the impossibility of assimilation, the all-consuming force of motherhood, and the secret lives of teenagers and their parents, each unknowable to the other.
