This Great Course examines the concept of truth, and how scientists try to approach truth in their scientific hypotheses. Science Wars explores the history of competing conceptions of scientific knowledge and their implications for science and society from the onset of the Scientific Revolution in the 1600s to the present. The lectures will be by Professor Steven Goldman of Lehigh University. The format for this class will be viewing two 30 minute lectures; each followed by discussion. The facilitator is Daryl Sherman, who formerly taught biology at the University of Laval in Quebec City, and has taught photography at Madison College. Daryl also coordinates PLATO classes on both the American Civil War and Poetry. There is a $10 fee for this class. No class February 1st or 8th.
