Ho-Chunk artist Harry Whitehorse was a well-known Madison sculptor who created the model for The Badger towards the end of his career, in tribute to his love for animals, children, and his community. The family gifted the model to the City of Madison for public placement. Landscape Architect Ken Saiki Design, as part of an extensive neighborhood-involved Monroe Street Reconstruction Planning process, selected The Badger for this location. The sculpture was posthumously cast in bronze and recently installed by Vanguard Sculpture services.

The dedication will include a Welcome by Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway; singing and drumming by the Wisconsin Dells Singers; Ho-Chunk dancers; the Sanford WhiteEagle Post 556 Color Guard in honor of Harry's WWII Navy service, and remarks from Ho-Chunk Nation leaders and family members.

Please note:  The dedication will take place in a triangle of grassy land between three busy streets. Parking is available on neighborhood streets. Please allow extra time to find parking and get to the dedication area. Drop off for people with limited mobility may be easiest near the corner of Monroe St and Breese Terr. Limited seating will be available for people who need to sit, elders, speakers, and family.
