La haine (translation:Hate)is a 1995 French black-and-white drama film written, co-edited, and directed by Mathieu Kassovitz. The film depicts approximately 19 consecutive hours in the lives of three friends in their early twenties from immigrant families living in an impoverished multi-ethnic French housing project in the suburbs of Paris, in the aftermath of a riot. Kassovitz received the Best Director prize at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival for this work.
