Fifth grader Deming Guo lives happily with his mother Polly, an undocumented Chinese immigrant, in the Bronx. When Polly suddenly disappears, Deming is adopted by a couple of professors who change his name to Daniel and take him to live with them in a small town in upstate New York. Deming/Daniel’s upbringing and search for identity is the heart of the rest of the story. Join in the discussion and dessert!
