Bird & Nature Outing | Warner Park | February 21
Sugar Moon, Hunger Moon with Kathlean Wolf ~ IMPORTANT: Following guidance from Public Health Madison & Dane County, Madison Parks is supporting the volunteer-led Bird & Nature Outings. Self-guided walks are encouraged any day.
Explore the woods and fields of late winter in the time when death and new life walk side-by-side. Animals run through the last of their fat reserves and food becomes scarce, even as many animals are mating and rearing tiny pups. Trees secretly turn root-starch to sugar, preparing to send sap high into their limbs to feed tiny leaf-buds. Will winter come to a warm and welcome end, or will the cold hang on until only the strongest survive?
Enjoy an informal family and kid-friendly nature walk around the scenic Warner Pond lagoon and across Castle Creek to discover the wetlands, woods, and prairie in the Wild Side of Warner Park and the birds and other creatures that call it home! Walks at Warner Park held on the 3rd Sunday every month are co-sponsored by Madison Bird City FUN partners Wild Warner and Madison Audubon. Meet at the colorful Warner Park Shelter by the lagoon. Parking is available nearby. No registration required. No pets are allowed.
