Winter Tree Identification with Friend of Owen Bethney Gunderson and Tree Expert Sean Gere ~ IMPORTANT: Following guidance from Public Health Madison & Dane County, Madison Parks is supporting the volunteer-led Bird & Nature Outings. Participation is limited to the first 20 people. Masks are required and must be worn at all times. Please practice social distancing with members outside of your household. Self-guided walks are encouraged any day.
Have you ever wondered how to identify trees when there are no leaves to help you? Use this volunteer-created Self-Guided Activity Map and enjoy an easy hike that will introduce you to many of the trees found in Owen Conseration Park. Learn how to identify 16 different kinds of trees by their bark and shape!
Explore Owen Conservation Park on gentle trails through historic oak openings on a hillside with an Ice Age kettle and along restored prairies with beautiful vistas on this high point overlooking the west side of Madison. Co-sponsored by Madison Parks, Madison Audubon Society, and the Friends of Owen Conservation Park. Free, family-friendly guided nature walks at Owen Conservation Park are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month, year-round 2:30-4pm. No registration required. No pets are allowed.
